چکیده

The theoretical or practical dosimetry involving radiation interactions in humans needs the reliable elemental composition data of body tissues. The object of this research was to obtain the characterization dental hard tissues and to determine its effective atomic number. An analytical research of inorganic composition, from 30 intact human molars, extracted for periodontal reasons, was performed by Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA), ICP/AES, Thermogravimetric (TG) and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). The coronal dentin and enamel were separated by two techniques: (1) mechanically by chipping and breaking by chirurgic hammer, allowed to dry in an electric oven for 5 hours at 160C. (2) through by high-running round steel burs. The samples were thoroughly cleaned with distilled deionizer water and sent for analysis in CDTN/CNEN laboratories, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The results showed concentrations of 11 elements measured in dentin and enamel. The five elements of the higher concentration by neutron activation analysis and ICP/AES were Ca, P, Na, Mg and Al. Thermogravimetric analysis of enamel showed a loss of water of hydroxyapatite to 500C. Thermogravimetric analyses of dentin showed tree temperatures at which mass loss occur. These processes are related to superficial water loss (100C); organic decomposition and water liberation from hydroxyapaptite (100C to 600C); and the beginning of hydroxyapatite decomposition (600C to 850C). Differences, in mineral concentration, were found between enamel and dentin, with higher concentrations in enamel. The two techniques proposed to separated dentin and enamel, no presented differences in elements concentration, statement that the high-running round steel burs technique didn’t affected the samples.

Effect of Office Bleaching Systems on Chemical Compositions of Enamel and Dentin: an in Vitro Study

Background and Aim: To determine the change in the mineral component of enamel and dentin as well as to evaluate the differences in surface texture of the same dental hard tissues following three office bleaching procedures in vitro. Materials and Methods: Sixty extracted human anterior teeth were used. Thirty teeth were used as enamel samples; the buccal surfaces of the remaining 30 teeth were...

مقایسه استحکام باند برشی Unfilled Resin به مینای خشک و دنتین باندینگ روی مینای خشک و مرطوب

Statement of Problem: The use of dentine bondings on enamel and dentin in total etch protocols has recently become popular. Unfilled resin is hydrophobic and dentin bonding is hydrophilic in nature. This chemical difference could be effective in enamel bonding process. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of unfilled resin to dry enamel and dentin bonding to dry...

Chemical analysis of human teeth.

THE dental literature contains numerous articles concerning the chemical analysis of human teeth.1-9 Most of this work was done in the early 1930's. Naturally, in these analyses the common chemical methods and procedures known at the time were used. Recently, a request was received for an analysis of some Greek teeth to compare their chemical compositions with that of domestic teeth. In recent ...

Effect of Radiotherapy on Nano-mechanical Properties and Chemical Composition of Tooth Enamel and Dentin

The purpose of this study was to understand radiotherapy-induced dental lesions characterized by enamel delamination near the dentin-enamel junction (DEJ) by evaluating enamel and dentin nano-mechanical properties and chemical composition before and after in vitro and in vivo radiotherapy. For the in vitro group, sections from non-carious third molars were exposed to 2 Gy fractions, 5 days/week...

Chemical Constitution of Enamel and Dentin

An understanding of the calcification process requires exact. knowledge of the nature and variations of composition of the mineral phase of calcified tissues. Other investigators have continued the study, begun years ago, of the composition of the inorganic salts of bone, but a comprehensive study of the results of analysis of enamel and. dentin by modern methods has not been described. Crowell...
